Your roof and walls

Winter is here and during the winter months, we all spend a lot more time indoors. It’s not surprising that this is when a lot of indoor house renovation projects are hatched. When sitting around your home you may start to notice the kitchen units are past their day, or the bathroom is really showing its age, and you may think it’s about time to change the colour of the walls.

Outside of your property

As exciting as it is to start planning some of the changes you’ll make in the spring, this is a good time of year to give some thought to the outside of your property. Our winters in Scotland can be pretty harsh and the exterior of your home can take a real pounding from the wind, rain, sleet and snow.

High winds are not unusual and can loosen or lift roof tiles or slates. The combination of wind and driving rain can erode the fabric of the building and although lying snow looks pretty, it can cause structural damage over time. It’s easy to take the outside of our homes for granted and wait until we get a leak, lose some slates, or masonry falls off, before we call in the Builders UK.

The roof, exterior walls, doors and windows are our shield from the elements, so next time there’s a weather window of opportunity, check to see everything is as it should be and if anything needs repaired, get expert help.
